The Perfect Location

Considered one of the safest vacation destinations in Mexico, this best kept secret is just 50 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco along the coast of Nayarit.  One can pre-book a cab to pick them up at the airport and for 800 to 1000 pesos be delivered to their doorstep. The area offers beautiful beaches, mysterious islands, jungle adventure, exciting mountain tours, fabulous restaurants and wonderful shops with prices that can't be beat.  The beaches are second to none and the calm water and islands in the bay provide plenty of opportunity for exploration.  The small resort village of Rincon de Guayabitos is a coastal town located in the Bay of Jaltemba.  It is divided up into the residential zone and the hotel zone. The downtown restaurants and shops are just a leisurely walk down the quaint cobblestone streets or off the many avenues leading from the sandy beach. The shops, beach vendors, and open air markets  provides us with anything we may need including fresh fish and shrimp, fruits, vegetables and candied nuts and authentic Mexican wares that are far less expensive than the ones found in the commercialized resort cities of Mexico.  La Penita is a larger community within the bay that also can be explored by simply crossing the "Bridge of Life". It has a new hospital, drug store and many amenities that provide all the conveniences of home.

Paradise!

Our Mexican Vacation Home

Our Mediterranean-style winter getaway is nestled in the residential zone of Rincon de Guayabitos. The full address of Ocean Breeze is:  #37 Pavo Real (Peacock), Sol Nuevo en Rincon De Guayabitos, 63732, Municipio De Compostela, Nayarit, Mexico.  Its  location  provides us with a safe, comfortable and unique stay in small town Mexico.  Although a block and a half from the beach, and walking distance from downtown and the Bridge of Life, Ocean Breeze is located in a quiet area of town far removed from the noisy crowds of the hotel district.  The streets are never busy and the beach is never crowded.   Our friendly neighbours are mostly Canadians who chose to make Guayabitos their winter home and our Mexican friends are wonderful people who are always willing to help us out when we need assistance.

We consider Ocean Breeze our home away from home; add family and friends to the mix and we have all we desire: warmth, laughter and relaxation.

JUST A NOTE....

Guayabitos is a small Mexican town that just in the past ten years has rapidly expanded with the new construction of large, beautiful haciendas accommodating the many Americans and Canadians that have fell in love with the area.  Of course with this expansion comes new problems for the area such as the increase of sewage, garbage and the ever increasing need for power and water.   Taxes are so low that there is not enough money for the town to keep up with the demand of expanding and updating their facilities.

The new modern homes in the area have updated water and sewer systems with large cisterns, pools and gardens that require a lot of water.  During certain times of the year there may not be  enough water to go around and the town first provides to the hotel zone before sending water on to the residential area.  Since many of the new homes have large cisterns, sometimes the water is gone before it gets to us.  Ocean Breeze is an older hacienda and does not have a large cistern and is close to the end of the run.  The town lines are old and depend on gravity for distribution.  So every so often our cistern is not completely filled by the time the water is turned off as a conservation measure.  If this happens and we actually run out of water, we then just call a water truck, which is a common practice for many of the home owners in the area, and for a small fee, get the cistern and pool filled.  But if we conserve our water, it lasts a few weeks, depending on the amount of people at the house.  Now with the new well that has been recently dug, although the water is a little rusty, we have never run out of water and we get water coming in almost every evening.  But either way, not a big deal, just the small price to pay living in a beautiful, ocean-side town.

Sewage is also another concern for Guayabitos and Le Penita and many people don't understand the need to dispose their paper products in the appropriate manner.  Although many of the new haciendas have new, larger sewer pipes that can handle paper products, the town lines and the sewage stations can't.  They simply do not have the capacity or the equipment to properly break down the amount of paper that comes through the system now.  Although, the sewer pipes in Ocean Breeze seem to be able to handle the paper products, we have decided that due to our environmental responsibility to the area that we will not flush the paper products and in turn dispose of them in the garbage where they can be burned and can cause little effect on the ocean.  We have to preserve the beauty of the area.
